As the sun warms the earth, early summer launches a busy season at our blueberry farm. This year, we are not only tending to our blueberry bushes but also diving into a new adventure—growing flowers! With our youngest daughter’s wedding on the horizon, we are excited to cultivate blooms for her big day.
Pruning Blueberry Bushes
In early summer, we put in hard work to ensure our blueberry bushes are healthy and fruitful. Pruning is vital. By removing dead or diseased branches, we allow the bushes to focus their energy on producing sweet, juicy berries.
Pruning enhances air circulation and sunlight penetration, both critical for strong growth. This labor-intensive task is rewarding. Just imagine—our bushes yield 50% more berries after a thorough pruning! As we cut back the wood, we dream of the rich harvest waiting for us in mid to late July—a prime time for blueberry enthusiasts to visit our u-pick farm.
Mulching for Moisture Retention
After pruning, we turn our attention to another essential task: mulching. A generous layer of mulch around each blueberry bush protects the roots, retains moisture, and suppresses stubborn weeds. This year, we are using straw and wood chips, which not only serve their purpose but also brighten the farm’s appearance.
The benefits of mulching extend beyond our blueberry bushes. By creating a stable environment, we foster a healthier ecosystem on the farm. Studies show that well-mulched areas can reduce water needs by 20-30%, enhancing plant growth. As we mulch, we are excited about the joyful crowds that will soon flock to pick their own blueberries later this summer.
Weeding: The Never-Ending Battle
Weeds can be relentless! We tackle weeding every year, making it a top priority. Weeds compete fiercely for the nutrients and water our blueberries and flowers need.
While the task can feel tedious, we find a certain tranquility in it. Each time we pull out unwanted plants, we appreciate the beauty of nature around us and the promise of blooming flowers. Completing a weed-free patch brings immense satisfaction, and every moment spent on our knees is an investment in the lovely harvest to come.
Flowers Galore!
This year, our excitement goes beyond blueberries. We’ve started growing a vibrant range of flowers for our daughter’s wedding. This effort is about adding color to the farm and infusing love and joy into every bloom we nurture.
We are cultivating a beautiful mix of soft white and blush pink blooms to bring our daughter’s wedding vision to life. From romantic roses and delicate lisianthus to airy zinnias, each flower has been thoughtfully chosen for its elegance and timeless charm. These graceful blossoms will add a dreamy, garden-inspired feel to her special day. This effort not only celebrates nature’s beauty but also deepens the meaning behind every petal—grown with love, for love.
Anticipation Builds
As summer progresses, the work doesn’t end. Our mornings are filled with the scent of fresh soil and the cheerful buzz of bees, while our evenings are dedicated to admiring the growth of our blueberry bushes and flowers. The labor is long, but it brings great rewards.
We eagerly await our guests in mid to late July! Watching families gather to pick fresh, delicious blueberries on our u-pick farm is a cherished joy. We can't wait to share the fruits of our hard work—the luscious berries and the stunning wedding flowers.

Bob, Jodi, and Tucker

A few years ago, I brought my father to pick blueberries and we thoroughly enjoyed it. He had the time of his life. He is no longer with us, and I cherish the memories that we made at your farm.
Nice copy.
